Castles and Bisons

Castles, manors & Bisons!
Duration: 3-4 hours

See castles and manors – and go on a bison safari

Ditlevsdal Bisonfarm
North Fyn has plenty to offer – as long as you know where to look.

Just outside Odense, you have the chance to go on safari at Ditlevsdal Bisonfarm, where Yvonne Ove will explain what everyday life is like alongside the giant bison. You can see these great animals right up close and get a really good impression of how they behave.

After a trip in a covered, tractor-drawn carriage to see the animals, there will be time to enjoy coffee, cakes and soft drinks in the delightful farm café. You can also visit the farm shop to buy meat, hides and applied art, for example.

Langesø Manor
Close to Ditlevsdal Bisonfarm stands Langesø Manor, the main building of which dates back to 1774–79.

The manor itself is right next to the lake, set in a charming area of woodland that is a popular destination for many residents of Fyn looking to head outside and enjoy the countryside.

The woods feature all kinds of trees, including some rare conifers brought to Denmark from North America.

Dallund Castle & Harridslevgaard
The tour then continues through North Fyn to Dallund Castle, which is a recreation home today. The surrounding park, which has a lake, is open to the public and is the perfect setting for a quiet stroll through delightful surroundings.

At Glavendruplunden near Søndersø stands the rune stone that bears the longest runic inscription in Denmark. The stone was erected by Ragnhild over the body of her husband, the Viking chieftain known as “Alle the Pale”. The grove also contains a number of memorial stones marking major events in Danish history.

Just outside Bogense stands Harridslevgaard, which was previously known as the robbers’ castle, because it is said to have been a pirates’ hideaway in the Middle Ages. At that time, the water reached all the way up to Harridslevgaard, from where there was a fine view of the sea. The current Renaissance building dates back to 1606, and today, the proud building of Harridslevgaard appears unravaged by the passage of time.

Bogense is a charming little town that is well worth a visit. The old part of town is very well preserved and Erik Menveds Kro (Inn), the magnificent square with its old cluster houses, the old fishing harbour, the area around the village stream and the church are just some of the delights to enjoy here.
