Activities on the Hans Christian Andersen Christmas Market

The Hans Christian Andersen Christmas Market offers a wide range of activities for both adults and children.

Around the City Museum Møntergården there is a special selection of historic activities that offers a glimpse of daily life at the time Hans Christian Andersen lived. In the many booths with Christmas related products and quality wares you can make a bargain. It is of course also possible to buy food and beverages in the local restaurants.

While you are here you can take the oportunity to visit the Hans Christian Andersen Museum or the Children’s Cultural House - The Tinderbox.

Program for H.C. Andersen Julemarkedet 2010Activities will take place in the old city all day, specifically in the street, by the booths and in the mirror tent on Sortebrødre Torv.

 

Historic Christmas in the City Museum Moentergaarden

In connection with the Hans Christian Andersen Christmas Market in Odense the City Museum Møntergården welcomes you to a historic christmas in the museum.

  

Historic amusement park on
Sortebrødre Torv

Over several years actor and comedian Søren Østergaard has gathered old amusement park rides and it is a selection of those that can be seen at the Hans Christian Christmas Market.

Mirror Tent on Sortebrødre Torv

Once again you can find the nostalgic Belgian mirror tent on Sortebrødre Torv between the 27th November and 5th December. Inside the mirror tent with the beautiful interior you can experience a true Moulin Rouge atmosphere with entertainment all day and the possibility to quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger.
This is a good place to take your family for a small rest between other activities. The mirror tent is open from 10 am to 6 pm. There is no entry fee. 


Hans Christian Andersen Parade

Enjoy the potpourri of popular songs from Hans Christian Andersen’s Christmas fairy tale performed by the Hans Christian Andersen Parade.
Meet the Little Matchstick Girl, The Spruce, the Snow Queen, The Goblin and the Grocer and of course The Snowman. Torben Iversen (actor) and The Hans Christian Andersen Parade are dressed in Golden Age costumes made for the occasion.

See the parade on the Moentergaarden stage during both market weekends. (Saturday and Sunday at 4 pm and 5 pm.)
You can also meet the well known characters all over the Christmas market during opening hours.

The Live Nativity Play

Once again the Church of Our Lady produces “The Live Nativity Play”. The Nativity scene of course shows Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus in the stable on Christmas Eve but also has real live Christmas lambs that you cant help but want to pet.

The Nativity scene can be seen every day during shop hours from 1st to 26th December. You can see the Nativity scene by the Church of Our Lady, Vor Frue Kirkestræde 2, 5000 Odense C.
