Historic Christmas in the City Museum Moentergaarden

At Moentergaarden you can experience Christmas atmosphere as it was in a Danish market town in the 1800s. The area around Moentergaarden will be buzzing with activity and form an authentic back drop for historic Christmas activities. You can visit the beautifully lit, toppled court yards and make a bargain with the costumed vendors in the booths typical of that era.

Don’t miss the Grocers shop in Oesterbyes Court. Here you can buy delicious specialties for your Christmas lunch like beer from micro breweries and different kinds of marinated herrings. Samples are available.

The many court yards and narrow streets will be buzzing with life and activities. All through the day you can meet street performers that will help create the right market atmosphere.
The old poorhouses in Moentestraede will come alive with activities and perhaps you will be invited in to see some of the occupants’ work. You can visit work shops and buy some of the produce, i.e. some of the fine wooden wares.

If you need a rest you can relax on the roofed courtyard. You can buy a glass of glögg and warm your hands by the heaters – and enjoy the atmosphere at leisure.

The Funen Museum Christmas Market can be found indoors in Moentergaarden. This market presents goods from Funen museum shops. You can buy everything from old fashioned sweets, books and feather pens to heavy ceramic dishes. Get some inspiration for untraditional Christmas gifts in the many museum booths.
