In 2025, the exhibition at the H.C. Andersen House in Odense was updated to focus on play, imagination, and togetherness – especially for children. The colourful children’s universe Ville Vau invites young guests to dress up in fairy tale costumes and unleash their creativity.
The exhibition offers immersive and surprising experiences where children and adults can explore Andersen’s magical world together. A new sound system makes it easier to share the experience, and the entire exhibition was designed based on visitor feedback to better engage guests of all ages.

The Mermaid was inspired of course by one of Hans Christian Andersen's most well-known fairy tales about the little mermaid. This is however a very modern take.
The tale about the shepherdess and the chimney sweep is, just as other tales by Hans Christian Andersen, based on the romance between two household objects.
This sculpture was revealed on the 150th anniversary of H.C. Andersen's birth. The motive comes from his fairy tale "The Wild Swans".
