When H.C. Andersen’s House opens to the public following its official inauguration on 30 June, visitors won’t experience the full museum right away. Instead, the museum will gradually open more and more in what’s known as a soft opening throughout the summer.

To reflect this, ticket prices will be reduced by 50% from opening day until the end of July.

Merete Schultz, Head of Audience at Odense City Museums, explains:

“Unsurprisingly, COVID has caused challenges during both the construction phase and the setup of the exhibition. This is especially true in the final stages, where it's clear that a few parts of the museum won’t be ready by the 30 June opening. In addition, with a construction and exhibition design of this scale, it’s inevitable that some technical issues will arise and require adjustments. Nevertheless, we’ve chosen a soft opening because we believe we can already offer a unique experience to the many people spending their summer holidays in Denmark this year. But since we can’t promise the full museum experience from the start, we’ve decided to cut ticket prices in half through July. We had great success with this approach during last year’s summer package, which brought thousands of happy visitors to the old museum.”

All current public health guidelines will, of course, be followed when H.C. Andersen’s House opens. Timed online tickets ensure a safe and comfortable visit for everyone. Find the latest guidelines at www.hcandersenshus.dk.

About H.C. Andersen’s House

H.C. Andersen’s House in Odense is one of the largest and most ambitious museum projects in recent years. It was made possible through substantial support from the A.P. Møller Foundation and contributions from the Nordea Foundation, Augustinus Foundation, Knud Højgaard Foundation, the City of Odense, and Odense City Museums.

Odense City Museums is responsible for the exhibition. The building was designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates, in collaboration with C&W Architects, CORNELIUS VÖGE APS, MASU Planning, and Søren Jensen Consulting Engineers. The exhibition concept was developed by Event Communications, London.

The museum covers 5,600 square metres, two-thirds of which are underground, leading into an enchanting universe for children. The building is seamlessly integrated with a magical, labyrinthine garden. A wide range of cutting-edge technologies and scenographic techniques bring Andersen’s fairy tale world vividly to life.
