Tau Lewis – Mouth Close to Earth
Discover an exhibition at Brandts where Tau Lewis creates large textile sculptures from reused materials. At the art museum, you will encounter soft gods, mythical creatures and stories of roots, care and transformation.

At Brandts, Tau Lewis’s work unfolds as an immersive installation. Fabric, leather, shells and other found materials are transformed into large sculptures, masks and tapestries that fill the space with a powerful presence and new narratives.
When materials take on a new life
Tau Lewis works with reused textiles, leather, shells and other found materials, sewing them together by hand. This slow, meticulous process is an important part of her work. Every stitch brings together traces of previous lives, old traditions and the artist’s own experiences.
The result is an exhibition in which the materials seem to come alive. Some sculptures resemble people, while others emerge as mythical creatures with eyes, tentacles and bodies made from layers of textiles. This is art that you do not simply look at but step into.
A journey through myths and shifting moods
The exhibition draws on ancient stories about the goddess Inanna and her journey through darkness, loss and transformation. In Tau Lewis’s work, the myth becomes a contemporary universe where past and future meet through soft forms, sound and striking visual scenes.
As you move through the exhibition at Brandts, the atmosphere and pace change from room to room. There is space for reflection, curiosity and big questions about where we come from and how we relate to one another and the world around us.
Contemporary art with a physical presence
Tau Lewis uses soft materials to explore community, cultural roots and stories that have often been overlooked. Her work opens up new perspectives on art, people and the world around us.
