Taste H.C. Andersen at Restaurant Grønttorvet
This August, Restaurant Grønttorvet invites you to a fairytale-inspired HCA menu – a four-course dinner with beer pairings inspired by H.C. Andersen’s beloved characters and stories, served in the heart of historic Odense.
Experience the magic through food and drink
In the heart of Odense this August, you can embark on a culinary journey into the world of H.C. Andersen. Restaurant Grønttorvet is serving a special HCA menu, with each course inspired by one of the poet’s famous characters – paired with carefully selected beers that match both flavour and mood.
The HCA menu is part of Andersen Forever – a celebration of the 150th anniversary of H.C. Andersen’s death – and offers a unique taste experience in the city where it all began.
Four courses – four fairytales
The dinner begins with the appetizer Klods Hans (Clumsy Hans): a tart with soft onions, smoked Vesterhavs cheese, apple, and crème fraîche, served with sourdough bread and browned butter. It’s paired with the beer Klods Hans – an IPA with tropical notes of fruit, blueberry, and pine.
The starter Lille Krapyl (Little Rascal) features pan-seared pollock with braised fennel, crunchy Gammel Knas cheese, and a sauce made with Lille Krapyl beer, curry, and tomato. It comes with a Pale Ale offering fresh bitterness and floral notes.
The main course Tinsoldaten (The Steadfast Tin Soldier) consists of pork cheeks braised in Tinsoldaten beer, served with celeriac purée, oyster mushrooms, baked onions, blackberries, and Pommes Duchesse. The accompanying beer is a mild ale with a soft malt flavour and light bitterness.
Dessert is Elverhøj (The Elfin Hill) – pear crumble with vanilla sauce and gooseberry sorbet, served with the cider Elverhøj, which has a refreshing flavour of sun-ripened gooseberries.

Restaurant Grønttorvet is located in the cosy square of Sortebrødre Torv, close to H.C. Andersen’s House. Here, classic Danish cuisine meets warm, inviting surroundings – both inside, with dark wood panelling, and outside in a charming atmosphere.
