A day in Odense with your family
Enjoy a day in Odense with the whole family where you can discover new things, spend time together, and make eco-conscious choices along the way. We’ve put together a day itinerary with kid-friendly experiences, plenty of culture, fun, and sustainable places to eat – all with peace of mind.
Start the day at Hans Christian Andersen’s House and Ville Vau
Begin your day with Odense’s most famous resident at Hans Christian Andersen’s House and Ville Vau – a wonderland for kids, with play zones and immersive rooms full of costumes and exciting props. Grab lunch at Café Deilig or bring your packed lunch along for the next stop.

Hop on a Boat Ride on the Odense River to Odense ZOO
Take the electric river cruise (Åfart) to Odense ZOO. Be sure to buy your zoo ticket at the dock – that way you can skip the line. The eco-friendly boats offer a peaceful break while you enjoy a scenic view of Odense from the water. Feeling energetic? Rent a paddle boat before continuing your adventure.
Odense ZOO – Full of Animals and Activities
At Odense ZOO, you’ll meet all kinds of animals and maybe even learn something new. Check their daily programme online so you don’t miss out on any fun. Did you know you can feed the giraffes? Or walk 12 metres above ground in the treetops?
Continue to The Funen Village (Den Fynske Landsby)
Follow the riverside path about 1 km to The Funen Village. Try your hand at traditional crafts, meet farm animals, and learn about sustainable living in 1850 – a time when it was simply a necessity. Need a break? Stop by the inn at Sortebro Kro or catch the river cruise back to the city in search of dinner.
What’s for Dinner?
Well, that’s the question every day! We’ve got a few suggestions for you :)
Stay the Night
Of course, you can head home – but maybe you’ve discovered that Odense has more to offer than you expected? There are plenty of family-friendly places to stay that won’t break the budget.
