Popular Christmas calendar exhibition returns
A new exhibition based on a TV Christmas calendar is coming to Møntergården in Odense. It follows last year’s successful exhibition, which welcomed nearly 12,000 visitors. This year, the exhibition is based on a new TV 2 Christmas calendar. The partners behind the project are delighted to repeat the success in 2023 with a new exhibition as part of the joint initiative centred around Funen, Denmark’s Christmas island.
Last year, the exhibition 24 pakker – Kom bag kulissen på årets TV-julekalendere took its inspiration from the family Christmas calendars Tinka og Sjælens Spejl from TV 2 and DR’s Julehjertets Hemmelighed, helping put Funen on the map as Denmark’s Christmas destination. This year, a new family Christmas calendar titled Valdes Jul, filmed on Funen and broadcast on TV 2 and TV 2 Play, will form the basis of a new Christmas exhibition at Møntergården. The exhibition shares the same ambition: to show people across Denmark that Funen is the country’s Christmas island.
With Valdes Jul from TV 2 and Cosmo Film, we have yet another Christmas story this year that brings Denmark together. Last year, people across Denmark loved getting closer to the year’s Christmas calendars through the exhibition in Odense and at locations around Funen, so we are very pleased that we have succeeded in creating another exhibition in 2023 that brings viewers even closer to the magic behind the Christmas calendar.Klaus HansenCEO of FilmFyn
Last year, Museum Odense presented a TV Christmas calendar exhibition at Møntergården in what was a new format for the museum, but its strong visitor response showed clear public interest.
Mette Stauersbøl Mogensen, Development Manager at Møntergården, says:
“We are proud to once again create a completely new exhibition based on the upcoming magical Christmas universe that people in Denmark will encounter on TV 2 this Christmas. Last year, nearly 12,000 visitors came to the exhibition at Møntergården, and we are confident that this year too they will get into the Christmas spirit when they see what we have in store.”
The exhibition is still being developed, but the ambition is to give visitors the chance to get close to all the magical secrets from the new family Christmas calendar Valdes Jul, which will air on TV 2 from 1 December. The exhibition at Møntergården opens on 18 November and will run until 7 January 2024.
The Christmas Island of Funen is a collaboration between FilmFyn, Museum Odense, Destination Fyn and Odense Municipality. This is the second time the partners have worked together on TV Christmas calendars.
Destination Fyn handles much of the marketing for the Christmas Island of Funen, which also includes other Christmas initiatives beyond those related to TV Christmas calendars, and there is also great excitement here about the new exhibition.
“In Valdes Jul, we are introduced to a new magical universe on TV – one just as magical as Funen and its surrounding islands at Christmas time. We are delighted to once again give people across Denmark a special reason to visit both the exhibition at Møntergården and the many cosy Christmas markets on Funen and the islands,” says Tue Kempf, CEO of Destination Fyn, who hopes even more visitors will come to Funen during the Christmas season.
Odense Municipality has granted funding for the exhibition and related activities, and there is great enthusiasm that the project is continuing.
Funen has great ambitions, and Odense is once again supporting an exhibition in 2023. It is important that both Odense residents and visitors from elsewhere can enjoy unique experiences in our city, and the TV Christmas calendar is a perfect fit. It was a great success in 2022, and I look forward to seeing the new universe.Peter Rahbæk JuelMayor of Odense
In 2021, Odense Municipality granted DKK 2 million to support the Christmas calendar exhibition over a three-year period.
The exhibition at Møntergården opens on Sunday 18 November and will remain open throughout the Christmas season until 7 January 2024.
