Artwork Porten (The Gate)

A new landmark has arrived at Odense Harbour. The artwork Porten (The Gate), created by Danish visual artist Magnus Fuhr, is located at Pakhuskajen on the inner harbour. With its striking design, monumental scale and integrated light installation, the artwork serves as a new focal point on the waterfront while celebrating the area's transformation from an industrial harbour into a modern urban district.

A landmark at Odense Harbour inspired by the harbour's history

Porten is a circular steel structure measuring seven metres in diameter and three metres in depth. Weighing 16 tonnes, the artwork is built from recycled materials sourced from offshore wind turbine foundations. After dark, it is illuminated by a dynamic lighting installation inspired by the colours of a sunset.

Its location on the harbour promenade has been carefully selected. Here, traces of the harbour's industrial past meet the new public spaces, homes and waterfront areas that are shaping the inner harbour today. The artwork was conceived as an active part of its surroundings, contributing to the atmosphere and everyday life along the quay.

Magnus Fuhr combines light, architecture and storytelling

The artwork was created by Magnus Fuhr, founder of Chaos Engine Art Studio. His work centres on installations for public spaces, where materials, light and a site's unique story play a key role. His projects range from temporary installations to permanent artworks designed specifically for their locations.

In creating Porten, Fuhr drew inspiration from both the harbour's history and its ongoing transformation. The artwork is conceived as a gateway between past and future, where industrial aesthetics meet the new life emerging around the harbour basin.
