A mural open to interpretation

From afar, the mural reveals a large figure holding a child, with an animal resting at its feet. Up close, new details begin to emerge as soft shapes and muted colours create a calm, almost dreamlike atmosphere.

The work explores the dynamics of family life and the contrasts that can exist within close relationships. Its imagery is deliberately open-ended, inviting visitors to form their own interpretations and discover something new each time they return.

Morik brings international street art to Odense

The artist behind the mural is Marat Danilyan, better known as Morik. With major murals in cities including Madrid and Moscow, the internationally recognised artist has left a lasting impression on urban landscapes around the world. Now, one of his works can also be experienced in the heart of Odense.

Morik is known for a distinctive visual style that blends abstract and figurative elements. At Brandts Cloth Factory, these influences come together in a large-scale work that reflects on relationships, intimacy and contemporary family life.

Part of the Brandts experience

The mural is located in one of Odense’s most vibrant cultural districts, where Kulturmaskinen, Tidens Samling (Danish design in the 20th century), cafés, shops and creative businesses occupy the former industrial buildings of Brandts Cloth Factory.

More than simply a work of art, the mural also serves as a landmark within the area. It forms part of a wider initiative to transform Odense’s courtyards and passageways into destinations in their own right through art, culture and new urban spaces.

One of the features that makes the mural particularly distinctive is its location. The motif extends across both the façade and the adjoining passage, allowing it to be experienced from different perspectives. Viewed from the open courtyard, the overall composition comes into focus, while the finer details reveal themselves only as you move closer and explore the space around it.
