Odense is particularly well represented with the city’s cultural history and the upcoming 110-kilometre audio walk across Funen, the Carl Nielsen Camino, which begins in the city’s historic centre. Parts of the route can already be experienced in central Odense, while the full walking route across Funen will be completed in summer 2024.

In recent years, Odense has attracted growing international attention as an appealing destination for both Danish and international visitors, as the city has developed into a modern and vibrant city destination. Earlier in 2023, Odense was recognised by media such as The New York Times and Vogue, and interest has now become even more focused, as the American business magazine Forbes has named the city among the top 5 must-visit destinations in 2024. The article particularly highlights the audio walk, the Carl Nielsen Camino, which winds its way through Odense’s historic city centre and will be extended in summer 2024 to cross the island of Funen. In addition to the route, the article also emphasises Odense’s strong cultural heritage as the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, with the new H.C. Andersen House also highlighted as a must-visit attraction that brings the fairy tales to life.

It is a great honour for Odense to be recognised by such a prestigious publication as Forbes. In recent years, we have opened the doors to many exciting attractions and experiences in the city, which have also received considerable international attention. The opening of H.C. Andersen House, the city’s first Michelin star and the designation of Nonnebakken as a UNESCO World Heritage Site all support the city’s rich cultural history, while also pointing towards a city undergoing rapid development. The coming year is no exception, and we also look forward to the official opening of the entire 110-kilometre audio walk, the Carl Nielsen Camino.Peter Rahbæk Juel

It is wonderful to see recognition of the opportunity to head out into nature in Carl Nielsen’s footsteps after being introduced to the composer’s musical legacy at the Carl Nielsen Museum. We are very proud of the museum, which succeeds in showing both the classical and folk-inspired side of Funen’s world-renowned composer, and the recognition of the Camino confirms this duality.Henrik Harnow

In addition to Odense, Forbes’ list also mentions the attractions Carlsberg Byen in Copenhagen, the Northern Lights in Abisko, Sweden, the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö 2024 and the Arctic Cultural Festival in Bodø, Norway.
