Thriges Kraftcentral
In the heart of Odense’s old industrial district, Thriges Kraftcentral is home to a fascinating story of electricity, engines and the city’s industrial heritage. Here, you can experience the huge diesel engine in operation when volunteers bring history to life on the first Sunday of the month.

A living piece of industrial history in Odense
Thriges Kraftcentral is one of Odense’s most exciting industrial buildings. The old power station was once the heart of Thomas B. Thrige’s large factory complex, where electricity was produced for both the factories and parts of the city. Today, the building stands as a well-preserved museum filled with original meters, control panels and technical details from a time when electricity was still something entirely new.
As you step inside the historic building, you get a unique sense of working life in the past and the technological development that helped shape Odense as an industrial city.
See the large engine being started
What makes Thriges Kraftcentral truly special is the huge B&W diesel engine from the 1920s. The engine is still started up by dedicated volunteers, who keep the historic machine running and share their knowledge with visitors.
You can only experience the engine in operation on the first Sunday of each month, except in January and July. On these days, both locals and visitors gather to feel the vibrations, hear the sound of the old engine and experience the impressive technology up close.
Admission is free, and the events are run by volunteers with a great passion for Odense’s industrial history.
A different experience in Odense
If you are curious about history, technology or historic industrial environments, Thriges Kraftcentral is an exciting stop in Odense. Here, you get a different kind of museum experience, where you do not just see history behind glass cases, but experience it brought to life.
The power station is also a great example of how old industrial buildings can be given new life while continuing to tell stories about the city and the people who worked here for generations.
