The Phoenix: Aerial Acrobatics

Experience a breathtaking aerial show as H.C. Andersen Festivals presents The Phoenix at Flakhaven – part of the city's tribute to the 150th anniversary of H.C. Andersen’s death.

A poetic journey of transformation and rebirth
Picture a giant, transparent nest in the middle of Flakhaven. From this striking structure, The Phoenix takes flight – inspired by Andersen’s tale of the mythical bird that burns and is reborn from its ashes.
With acrobats soaring above the rooftops, accompanied by light, smoke, and movement, this sensory performance explores the cycles of life and change.

A cross-border collaboration full of visual wonder
This unique show is the result of a creative collaboration between Danish theatre group Hakkehuset and Italian contemporary circus artists eVenti Verticali.
Together, they combine physical theatre with powerful visual effects, featuring performers moving in and around a massive, translucent egg.
The show invites both young and adult audiences to reflect on themes like destruction, beauty, and renewal.

Part of Andersen Forever
The Phoenix is part of "Andersen Forever" – Odense’s major programme marking 150 years since H.C. Andersen’s passing.
Throughout August and into autumn, the city will host events celebrating the enduring impact of Denmark’s most beloved author.

How to get to Flakhaven
Flakhaven is located in the heart of Odense and is easily reached by public transport. Several bus lines stop nearby, and Odense Train Station is within walking distance.
