Veteran's Voices | Andersen Forever
Veterans’ Home Odense contributes to Andersen Forever with artworks that give form to unspoken emotions – about death, grief, longing, and the hope for new beginnings.
An exhibition about life’s difficult transitions
Some life transitions are hard to put into words – like the shift between past and future, or from military to civilian life. In Andersen Forever, this in-between space is explored in collaboration with the Veterans’ Home in Odense, where art becomes a way to express what words often can’t.
Themes such as death, grief, longing, and identity echo both in Andersen’s fairy tales and in the lives of veterans. Through visual art, former soldiers share personal experiences without needing to explain every detail. It’s a space for reflection, healing – and recognition.
The exhibition is on display from 6th to 30th August as part of Andersen Forever. You’ll find it at Odense Main Library – right by the train station – in the basement near the entrance to the archive. Getting there is easy: Take the train to Odense Station and walk the short distance to the library, or catch a city bus that stops nearby.
Drop by and discover how veterans’ art adds new perspectives to the world of Hans Christian Andersen.
