The New York Times places Odense among the top 30 cities to visit in 2023
The New York Times has just published its prestigious list of 50 cities to visit in 2023, and Odense has earned a prominent spot at number 28 – the only Danish city to make the list.
According to the Times, cities were selected for their exciting food scenes, innovative culture, meaningful experiences, and natural beauty.
In recent years, the City of Odense has worked intensively to transform itself into a modern, reimagined city for both Danish and international tourists, offering rich cultural experiences, vibrant gastronomy, and extraordinary attractions. These efforts culminated in 2021 with the opening of the spectacular Hans Christian Andersen House – an attraction the Times highlights in particular.
Peter Rahbæk Juel, Mayor of Odense, says:
“This is a tremendous international recognition and the result of years of hard work to make Odense a city that truly stands out as a tourist destination. We’ve transformed Thomas B. Thriges Gade, opened the Hans Christian Andersen House, introduced a light rail that connects the city, and launched new cultural highlights like the Tinderbox Festival. Being recognised by one of the world’s most influential media outlets is a real honour – and a tribute to everyone working tirelessly to develop our city. It inspires us to keep our high ambitions as we continue breaking tourism records and showing the world just how fantastic Odense is.”
Other cities on the list include Tarragona in Spain, Salalah in Oman, Fukuoka in Japan, and Tromsø in Norway.
