What is saunagus?

Saunagus is a guided sauna experience where a “gusmester” (sauna master) pours water infused with essential oils onto the hot sauna stones, creating fragrant steam. The sauna master then uses a towel to circulate the steam and heat throughout the room, creating an intense and deeply relaxing aromatherapeutic experience. Saunagus is said to relieve stress, stimulate blood circulation, and cleanse the respiratory system.

What happens during a saunagus session

  • Preparation: The sauna master mixes water with essential oils in a bowl.
  • Steaming: The scent of the oils is released as the water is poured over the hot sauna stones.
  • Circulation: The steam is fanned evenly around the sauna using a towel or fan.
  • Finishing touch: The session often ends with a cold plunge or refreshing shower to invigorate the body.
