The Square Art Installation

Experience the magical light art installation, The Square, which lights up Albani Torv in the winter darkness. Between four light columns, Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, The Shadow, is played out as a poetic and abstract story based on colours and the dance of light, which is clearly visible in the dark hours of winter.

Light, shadows and poetic narratives in Odense.

The art installation The Square, created by Chaos Engine, consists of LED lights and pixel mapping technology and is formed by four impressive rectangular cubes. They are arranged in a square formation that elegantly matches the surroundings of the stone-paved square. The Square can be found at Albani Torv until 30 March, where it will light up when darkness falls.

Welcome to "The Square" - an enchanting light art installation at Albani Torv in the heart of Odense.

It is Odense Municipality's ambition that The Square will continuously appear in the cityscape as an aesthetic, creative and forward-looking image of the city's development and at the same time with strong references to the city's history and cultural life.

The inspiration for the first theme of the Square is taken from Hans Christian Andersen's famous story about The Shadow. In collaboration with Hans Christian Andersen's House and Museum Odense, the direction for the design of the artwork has taken shape. This has resulted in an abstract interpretation of the story, where colours and shadow formations dance in time with the story.

The story explores themes of identity, desire and human nature. The Square captures this depth and conveys it through changing lighting moods that create an emotional journey for the viewer.

The Square is not just a light installation, but a wordless story that captures the eye and the mind, inviting everyone to experience Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale in a new and modern way.

Welcome to a world of light, shadows and narrative at Albani Torv - a unique meeting of art and literature in Odense.
