Denmark’s most bike-friendly city
Denmark is known for its unique cycling culture. And it’s no wonder, as the country has prioritized cycling with infrastructure such as designated bike lanes, bridges and super cycle highways.
Odense offers several public transport options, and for a quick and easy way to get around the city, we recommend that you hire or bring a bike - or simply walk. The city centre is very compact and optimal for walking between destinations.
If you're driving to Odense in your own car, you can either choose to park at Odense P Syd (it's free and there's no time limit), and take the light rail into the city centre for just DKK 15.
If you need to bring your car into the city centre, you can park at Odense P City, from where there are entrances to Vestergade, Fisketorvet, Overgade and the new Hans Christian Andersen Museum.

This easiest and cheapest way to travel with the light rail is by scanning the QR code you'll find at all stations. It leads to a payment solution that works on all newer smartphones. It's also the cheapest option at only DKK 15 per journey.
Just like in the buses, you can pay with a Rejsekort or you can download the Rejsebillet app. You can, however, also buy a ticket in the following shops, all conveniently located close to one of the stops:
Rejsekort is an electronic ticketing system for travelling by bus, train, and metro. Rejsekort unites the different transport operators, travel zones, ticketing systems, and discount schemes into a common system, which makes it easier for passengers to use public transport services in Denmark.
Odense is one of the cities that has a low emission zone. Within the low emission zone, diesel-powered lorries, buses, vans and cars must comply with special requirements for particle emissions. The zone is limited by Ring 2 and all approach roads are clearly signposted that you are entering or leaving the low emission zone.
You can see a map of the low emission zone here
Here you can see what you need to fulfil in order to enter the low emission zone in a diesel car - rules for vehicles in the low emission zone
På www.rejseplanen.dk you can plan your trip around Denmark, as well as book and buy your ticket on the same page.
We have several car hire companies in Odense. Please note that not alle companies listed are national, so if you need to return your rental car in a different city to where you rented it, make sure the company has an office there and allows returns in other locations.
