In Denmark you have to take advantage of the nice days and not waste them indoors. Here is the solution if you are visiting Odense on a fine day - try some of our outdoor attractions. In particular Odin's Odense and the Funen Village are well worth a visit.
Outdoor attractions in Odense

Visit Odense ZOO and experience wild animals in natural habitat areas. Elected as the best European zoo in 2013-2015 and has up to 500.000 guests a year.

The Odense Harbour Swimming pool is located and built into the harbour closest to the city. The swimming pool will be open all year except on special holidays.

Open air museum village showcasing Iron Age and Viking Age in Denmark with reconstructions and activities, primarily during the summer.

The Funen Village is a historical museum where you can experience many different activities and see how people lived and worked in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Green attractions under the open sky
Odense takes pride in being a green city, here are plenty of parks and green areas. In fact, it has been decided that, in the city centre, the nearest green area can never be more than 300 m away. We believe that all the greenery is part of what gives Odense its great, relaxed atmosphere.

Located next to the main building of Sanderumgaard Manor House is the old romantic landscape garden, one of the first of its kind in Denmark

The fairy tale garden is the small park, located at Odense River behind the cathedral. The park includes some sculptures and a small island.

Kongens Have was laid out as a Baroque garden in the 1720s on the basis of a plan by Johann Cornelius Krieger. Parts of the original garden can still be found.

The monastery garden is a fine little geometrically laid out garden, which architect I. P. Sørensen drew in the 1920’s.

The garden has several functions, as it is used both as a park, inspiration garden for garden lovers and as a training location for kindergartens and schools.

Local park Munke Mose is where you can catch the river cruise, rent a pedalo, get an ice cream and see several fairy tale inspired sculptures.
Natural areas close by

The little forest Fruens Bøge is situated in the southern part of Odense. Some of it's attractions are a little, idyllic lake and the restaurant Carlslund.

Years ago Stige Island was in use as a landfill, but now it has been cleaned up and turned into a nature/activity area.

The Hans Christian Andersen Forest was planted in 2001. Seen from the air, the forest resembles Andersen's paper cut-out "The Sun Head".

The River Odense is about 54 kilometres long and runs through Odense. The river is Funen's longest watercourse, usually 30-50 metres wide.

Odense is full of beautiful green areas that invite you to go for a walk, a bike ride, or sit and relax in green surroundings. Skovsøen is one of them.

Kohaveskoven with its surrounding woods, new plantings and grazed meadows is one of Odense's largest and finest natural areas.

The almost 3-hectare fenced area in Hedvigslundskoven is a great place to walk your dog. There is old forest, new plantings and a large grassy area.

The approximately 15 ha Næsbyhoved Forest is a beech-clad hill, sandwiched between Kanalvej and Næsbyvej and hides the remnants of a medieval royal castle.

Outdoor fitness

This outdoor gym is primarily intended for adults and teens and you will find no dedicated fitness equipment for children.

The gym in Munke Mose has fitness equipment for both children and adults and some are placed together so that you can compete with each other.

Use the holiday actively, take the whole family or friends out to try the new sport padel at Odense Harbour.
