Odense is full of unique experiences outside of the typical tourist attractions. This article details how a local student spends her free time on the weekend in Odense.

Hi I’m Olivia. I’m a 25-year-old American living in Odense. I’m currently studying International Tourism and Leisure Management at SDU University. Odense is special to me because it’s where I met my boyfriend three years ago while I was studying abroad.

Odense is a fun city for people my age because there is always something fun going on in the city. Throughout the year, there are a lot of different festivals. Tinderbox, Magic Days and the Generator music festival are a few of my favorites. I also enjoy Odense because of its charm with its cozy cafes, quaint and colorful streets, and beautiful outdoor spaces along the river.

Three of my favorite things to do in Odense are:

Explore Odense Harbor

One of my favorite spots in Odense is the Harbor. Odense Harbor is a newly revitalized area in the city. In the past, the area was used as an industrial harbor. Over the past couple of years, the harbor has transformed into a popular spot for locals with residential buildings, cafés, and free outdoor activities. At Odense Harbor, there is a harbour bath, outdoor skate park, and volleyball courts. The Harbor also has an 18-hole mini-golf course however this is a paid activity. The trip to Odense Harbor is also an experience in itself. To get to the Harbor from Odense Train Station you can cross over Odense’s Foot and Cycle Bridge. I recommend taking a bike over the bridge to experience the city as the Danes do.

Enjoy Odense’s street food market Storms Pakhus

Another great spot to visit in Odense is Storms Pakhus. Storms Pakhus is a buzzing street food market with 16 food stalls, 8 bars, and 6 creative spaces. Storms Pakhus is a great place to enjoy some of the best flavors of Fyn with family and friends. Throughout the year, Storms hosts many exciting events such as Octoberfest, the Christmas Market, live music and events for kids such as the Pizza School.

Spend time in one of Odense’s green spaces

On a typical Sunday, I try to get outside as much as possible. You can find me on a long bike ride through Munke Mose Park. Munke Mose is a favorite space for locals to exercise or unwind with friends and loved ones. The Fairytale Garden is another beautiful outdoor space to hang out. Bring a blanket and a bottle of wine for a picnic with friends overlooking the garden.
